It has to happen: The snow melts. The mountain closes.
Time to put away the skis - get out the bikes. It's spring!
This year, CVOA will be putting together its first ever biking guide. You can help.
We've already published one hiking guide with tips on the best treks in the Carrabassett region. A second guide is in the works. The money we raise from the sale of the guides help support club activities.
Now, it's time to turn our attention to peddle power.
We're looking for suggestions for some of your favorite bike rides in the region .. anywhere from Farmington to Philips to Rangeley to Stratton to Bingham. Road trips, rail trails and mountain bike excursions.
Please provide a brief description of the ride: Directions to the starting point, where to park, distance of the ride, level of difficulty, scenery, historic spots, road conditions, tips --- anything a fellow biker might find useful. Give your trail a name. We'll give you credit for "discovering" it.
We've created a special email address for your suggestions. Please send them to: cvbikers@gmail.com.
Our guide will include the tried and true rides we all know and love ... like the Narrow Gauge Trail and the Solon Rail Trail. But we're looking for some new routes, too.
If you know of a trail but haven't biked it yourself --- send us the suggestion and we'll check it out.
If you've got photos, send those too.
We hope to publish our guide by homecoming.
So when you're packing your sandwich and your water bottle for a trek this summer --- take along a notebook.
Happy trails.
