BIKE CLUB NEWS!!!!!
From David Hughes
Outdoor Center - You want new single-track with flow
and excitement?? We are ready to bring it to you. We just need a
little help!
CR NEMBA will be hosting two day trail work weekend at the Outdoor Center Sat. Aug 13 and Sun. Aug 14. We
will be meeting at the ODC at 9:00 am and working until 3:00 pm each day.
There will be short 30-45 min mini trail building school at the beginning
of each day, demonstrating the tasks to be performed. We hope to have 20 -
30 people attend and will split into crews of 5 or 6 each with a foreman that
completed training at the IMBA/NEMBA trail building school this spring. Besides
a ride each day we are planning an after work/ride social event
so stay tuned for details on that.
We will be completing "finish" work on the
single-track re-routes on trails 7, 29 and 32 at the ODC. (See highlighted area
on attached map.) Town & Sugarloaf employees, and CR NEMBA
volunteers have been working hard for the first half of summer to put a
real dent in our goals of completing the first phase of Hardy Avery's design
work by the end of this building season and we are within reach.
This is a very important work weekend! When
construction of phase 1 was approved by the town selectman and
residents, the town agreed to spend $17,000 cash and the club greed
to contribute $7,000 in labor and in-kind donations . Much of the towns
work is complete and hand finishing (buffing) the single track tread is
now up to the CR NEMBA crew.
Things to bring
with you:
- Gloves, water, lunch, bug repellant;
- Wheelbarrows, Pickaxes and Grub
hoes will be the tools of the day , if you
have one (or more) please bring it (them) with you, if not we
have some, so still come and join us;
- Watch the weather and dress appropriately;
- Bike and gear for those who want to ride
after each work day.
If you plan to attend please let us know by emailing our
secretary Kimberly at loaflady@tdstelme.net.
We really hope to see you. We can't do it without you.
Update:
The inaugural running of the Carrabassett
Backcountry Cycle Challenge (CBCC) was
a tremendous success! We had more than 100 racers brave the 60 mile
endurance course and over 45 racers participate in the shorter 28 mile course.
This was a huge undertaking by the town of Carrabassett Valley (race sponsor) and CR
NEMBA. It was only possible because of the community support it received. There
were over 50 volunteers most coming to us looking for a way
to help! Truly remarkable!
On behalf of the CBCC race committee, I want to send a
heart felt thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, and
or allowed the race to be run across their land! Here's another big
thank you to our many sponsors! I don't have a complete sponsor list as I
sit here composing this message, and don't want to leave anyone out, so I
will be listing each one in my news letter next week. THANK YOU!
The feedback we have solicited and received from race
participants ("survivors") has been overwhelmingly positive, all
saying they are looking forward to next years event. This is the start of a new
tradition in "the valley"!
Here are the
people who worked for the past 7 + months planning this event and making
it a reality...
