Renowned exhibition shooter to

perform at CVOA Range for Homecoming

BY JOHN MCCATHERIN

You may have seen him on YouTube, or at one of his many demonstrations. But what’s for certain, you won’t forget him once you’ve seen his performance.

Jerome Holt, a professional exhibition shooter, has agreed to provide a demonstration for CVOA Sunday afternoon, Oct. 9, during Homecoming Weekend.

Holt, of Bethel, will be performing with his wingman, Colin Micklon of Fryeburg, starting at 1:30 p.m., following the traditional CVOA barbecue at the range.

Another feature of the program will be the formal acceptance of two new projects conducted by Eagle Scout candidates Ian Wilson and Matt Beauregard of Boy Scout Troop #525, sponsored by CVOA. Wilson has developed an archery range with both static and simulated hunting targets. Beauregard’s project is a canopy over the rifle range firing line.

The Sunday range program will start at 9 a.m. with a regularly-scheduled fall trap shoot. Holt and Micklon are planning to participate.

At noon, CVOA range volunteers will put on their barbecue featuring grilled chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs and a variety of “pot luck” offerings prepared by CVOA-member chefs. The full buffet will be $7.50 each but hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be sold individually.

The Range Committee is suggesting a $5 donation for those attending the shooting demonstration to help defray the costs of the program.

Holt, whose shotguns are sponsored by the Benelli Firearms Corporation, is an expert marksman who has performed with “most any weapon – shotguns, pistols, revolvers, recurve and compound bows, throw-axe knives and even skill saw blades.”

Micklon, an avid hunter, is an expert with shotguns, pistols and rifles.

Holt started shooting when he was five years old and comes by it quite naturally. His father was a gunner’s mate in both World War II and Viet Nam and was a weapons instructor at Maine Maritime Academy.

Among other video performances, Holt has auditioned for Top Shot, the History Channel reality show that has gained great popularity with fans of the shooting sports. His casting video tells of his background and lifelong involvement in shooting. Google “Jerome Holt Top Shot”.

He can also be seen on several YouTube performances doing a variety of trick shots. For a two-minute sample of his demonstration, Google “Team Zespy Trick Shooting Promo DVD #1”.
