The cookbook is the club’s latest project. It is the result of months of work --- collecting and editing recipes, gathering tried-and-true tips for cooking outdoors and designing the book itself.

All of the recipes, the hints and the photos were donated by members of CVOA. The dishes include original recipes, family favorites and offerings tailored to be cooked over a fire instead of a stove... or in a crockpot in a community center. Many offer advice for preparing the game we shoot, the fish we catch and the “wild things” we forage for in the forests.

The cookbook is as unique and as creative as the organization itself.

"This is a fantastic book," said CVOA President Peter Weston. "Everyone is always raving about the fabulous food at CVOA outings ... and the creativity of our cooks. This is a book for anyone who loves to cook or eat … indoors or out."

The dishes in this cookbook are not only varied, but also portable. They’ve been wrapped and packed and toted in coolers by boat for island hiking trips, by caravan to Baxter State Park for camping weekends and in backpacks to waterfalls, fishing holes and ski picnics.

The chapters range from drinks and snacks at Happy Hours to the soups, stews and chili’s served at CVO A’s Souper Suppers.

"The quality of the recipes is outstanding," said Weston. "This is not your ordinary cookbook."
