Twelve happy hikers/bikers hiked up to Crommett Overlook on Sunday, October 12th. Hiking were Sandy & Mike Jamison and their dog Cisco, Pam & Pappy Labbe, Gail Miller and friend Judy Conrad and trip leader Linda Trueworthy. Biking were Nancy Perry, Jean Pernice, Rick Young, Diane
Sturzenberger and Jerry Paradis.
We all left Campbell Field shortly after 9AM enjoying the scenery along the Gauge Trail and admiring Pam & Pappy's lovely home across the river. Cisco decided to take a swim in the beaver pond. We didn't see any beavers but there were some ducks.
The hikers/bikers then met up at the trail head, stashed the bikes and proceeded up the .7 mile trail. It was a pleasure to hike on such a well maintained trail: Thank you trail crew! We crossed over a small bog then up a short and gentle rise where it then levels off and suddenly you're at the overlook. "Oh, My Gosh"!
Now, according to our trail time-keeper Jerry, we made it up there in 59 minutes and 58 seconds. We had a spectacular unobstructed view, looking out over the Valley and onto the Loaf, Burnt Mtn. and the Crockers. Thank you again trail crew!
Everyone got their cameras out for some great pictures. Of course, we took some timed group photos so everyone could be in the pictures. Linda brought homemade trailbars to share with everyone, mmmm. Then it was time to head back down the trail as we all still had a busy day
ahead. Maybe we can ask the trail crew to next time rake all the leaves off the trail so some of the hikers won't trip and fall on all fours on the rocks underneath the leaves. (No injuries.)
We made it back to Campbell Field in time to go to the range for a full afternoon of activities and BBQ.Our thanks to the late Dick Crommett, who discovered the overlook while hiking several years ago.
Happy trails,
Linda
