On Columbus Day, 11 CVOA riders headed out for a bicycle trek to Grant's Camps in Oquossoc on Kennebago Lake.
That day was the nicest day of the whole Columbus Day weekend, cold but no rain nor snow nor sleet nor hail!
Temps were in the 30's to start but everyone was well prepared, dressed warmly, and enjoyed the ride.
There are several "stop to see" spots along the ride paralleling the Kennebago River, including Steep Bank Pool where canoes can be put in, a pool where Eisenhower was said to have fished, and the little Kennebago Hydro dam near the outlet of the lake.
We had the dining room to ourselves at Grant's and the food was excellent as
always, starting with the wonderful seafood chowder with plenty of chunks of
lobster!
Bruce Hanke, Elaine Fitzpatrick, Diane Sturzenberger, Jeanne Pernice, Glen and Peggy Bickford, Jan Mildram, Maggie Newton, Linda Trueworthy and Nancy Perry all dutifully showed up on time and followed Bonnie Stagers driving over to Oquossoc in a caravan.
There were no flats, no falls, no incidents, perhaps a cry of "I can't ride; I'm too full" heard on the return ride.
Several riders picked up brochures with thoughts of possible return trips to stay at Grant's Camps sometime in the future for fishing and hunting.
