This fall, the Carrabassett Valley Outdoor Association will spend a weekend in Gulf Hagas, a National Natural Landmark in Brownville.
The area
features a challenging 8.5 mile loop trail that traces the rim of a 400-foot
deep, four-mile long gorge. It loops past several waterfalls and winds through a
section of the The Hermitage, 35 acres of some of
A section of the AT passes through the scenic property, which is managed by the Nature Conservancy, the National Park Service, the Appalachian Trail Conference and Northern Maine Woods.
There's some beautiful swimming holes along the route and the foliage should be nearing peak. If you've never been, it's a great spot.
This will be CVOA's first visit to Gulf Hagas.
We'll be
travelling to the area Friday July 10, hiking on Saturday and heading home
Sunday July 12.
There are other mountains and trails nearby for those that may want to spend a couple days hiking.
