Full Day at the Range
By John McCatherin
CVOA celebrated homecoming at its rifle, pistol and trap-shooting range with a full day of activities.
Sunday, there was trap shooting all day.
Next door, at the rifle range, a demonstration team from Fox Ridge Outfitters in Rochester, N.H., provided interested shooters with an opportunity to try out Thompson Center Fire black powder guns including 50-caliber versions that commanded attention from all over the range when fired.

But that paled by comparison when Bill Hardt of the U.S. Border Patrol set up his black powder salute cannon to help dedicate the new CVOA pistol range. CVOA's own Eagle ScoutAssisted by Eagle Scout candidate Christian Beauregard, who helped coordinate and build the new range and covered shooting stations, Hardt's cannon heralded the official opening of the new range.
In attendance were members of CVOA's Boy Scout Troop #525, area business people who made major donations of materials, supplies, labor and cash to help offset the cost of the range.
After the dedication, the CVOA cooks served up chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers and all the pot luck fixings that only CVOA can do so well. Guesses ranged as high as 100 diners but one thing was known for sure: all available parking spaces in the range were filled. Guess we can call that a full house.
