CVOA SKIS SADDLEBACK

Bluebird Day on Warren's Hill

By John McCatherin

Warren Cook hasn't lost his touch. He promised good conditions for a planned visit by CVOA members. And, boy, did he deliver.

When the seven intrepid Sugarloaf skiers showed up at Warren's new mountain, Saddleback, on Thursday, April 9, he was there to greet us in the base lodge. He didn't need to tell us we were in for a great day of skiing. All we had to do was look out the windows of the base lodge at the bright sun shining on freshly-groomed corduroy.

From there on it was first tracks down a number of great, groomed trails scattered across the 4,100-plus foot mountain ... trails with names from the fabled Rangeley Lakes regions fisheries, names like Tight Lines, Royal Coachman, Gray Ghost, Silver Doctor and Red and Blue Devils.

To a person, the entire CVOA crew called it a great day, well worth the trip. Taking part were Tom Anderle, Greg & Cindy Foster, Mike Jamison, John McCatherin, Neal Trask and Linda Trueworthy.

My guess is that this won't be the last time we put a group together to ski Saddleback. If you missed this trip, don't miss the next one. Even if Warren can't beat this recent experience, you can bet he'll provide a great one.
