CVOA SOCIAL TOPS THE CHARTS!

The Stratton Community Center was rocking Saturday night as more than 90 hearty members of the Carrabassett Valley Outdoor Association braved the cold for the annual winter social.

Cynthia Pernice, CVOA social secretary and organizer of the event, had one word to describe the evening: Wow!

“I think it is safe to say that everyone who attended had an amazing time. The food was excellent and the band rocked!”

After sampling an array of appetizers, hot entrees, salads and desserts, CVOA cleared the dance floor and settled in for a night of lively music by the RetroRockerz. The group, professionals from the Bangor area who often ski Sugarloaf, had the outdoor club on the floor twisting and jitterbugging to songs by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys and other big names from the 50s and 60s.

The band sponsored its own dancing-with-the-stars contest but kindly sidelined no losers, opting instead to choose a winner: Our own Dancin’ Fool Bill Haefele (Imagine Elaine on Seinfeld!). Despite his gymnastics, Bill “Ironman” still managed to make first chair Sunday morning.

Cynthia had praise for all the volunteers who made it possible.

“Thank you to all who help with set up, clean up and break down.  The event would not have been a success without everyone chipping in. Also, thanks to those who brought food for the food pantry,” she said.

The spring social will be held April 18. Contact Cynthia if you have suggestions for a band.
